What is Collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It makes up over 75% of the body’s protein, and is an integral component of skin, hair, nails, muscles, joints, bones, and gut health.

Why do we need collagen?

As we age, our body is unable to keep up with collagen production to meet its demands, which leads to the so-called symptoms of “ageing” – dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, brittle bones, joint stiffness, hair loss , and so on. By supplementing our daily diet with collagen, we are able to support the natural decline in the body and allow for better and stronger tissues.

Why is collagen made up of?

Collagen is naturally produced in our bodies, and in the bodies of animals. To make collagen supplements collagen is extracted from animal/fish bones, connective tissues and skin.

What does collagen help with?
  • Joint pain
  • Gut health (leaky gut, IBS and inflammatory bowel disease)
  • Hair loss
  • Skin health
  • Nail health
  • Bone health including teeth
  • Inflammation of joints and connective tissue
  • Tightens skin
  • Helps with stretch marks
  • Assists with hormonal imbalances
  • Anti-ageing
  • Increases metabolism resulting in weight loss
  • Reduces wrinkles, stretch marks and acne scars
  • Increases muscle recovery
Is the BioCultura collagen halaal?

Yes, the BioCultura products are 100% halaal and certified by the Muslim Judicial Council. Due to the source of the product it is of extreme importance to ensure that you verify that your collagen supplement is halaal and audited by a respected controlling body.

Is the BioCultura vegetarian?

No, our collagen is sourced from animals/fish and therefore not suitable for vegetarians.

Who should use your collagen?

Every adult should be taking a collagen supplement. In the fast pace world we live in, collagen supplementation has a plethora of benefits to suit your lifestyle and ensure your body is a well oiled machine.

We recommended starting your collagen journey with double the recommended dosage for the first two weeks to build up the collagen reserves in your body. After two weeks you can then normalise your in-take with 2 to 3 scoops a day. A scoop is included in the collagen pack for your convenience.

How should I be taking my collagen for best results?
  • Once daily
  • Best taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach
  • Add to water, yoghurt, juice, a smoothie, cereal etc.
  • Incorporate it in your morning coffee, hot chocolate or cooking

The most important thing is to be consistent with your intake.

Why don’t you sell us capsules which are easier and more palatable?

The powder is more easily absorbed into the human body. The recommended daily usage can be adjusted based on your lifestyle and the way your body feels. Also the recommended daily usage would require a large number of tablets or capsules to be taken each day.

Is your collagen safe for pregnant or breast-feeding ladies?

Yes. During pregnancy a collagen supplement assists the body to expand to accommodate a growing baby and is beneficial for post-partum recovery. It increases strength and elasticity of the skin thereby preventing stretch marks. It is also great for breast-feeding mums and helps the recovering mum to perform optimally.

Can I take collagen with other supplements?

Yes — collagen is generally safe to combine with other supplements including Vitamin D, magnesium, and multivitamins. If you’re on chronic medication, it’s always worth checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What's the shelf life once opened?

Once opened, we recommend using your collagen powder within 3 months and storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the lid tightly sealed after each use.

No we may have agents in your country but we do not ship directly to other countries outside the borders of South Africa

Can I take more than one BioCultura supplement at the same time?

Yes — many customers combine collagen with products like Mag Plus, Skin C, or BioGLO Glutathione as part of a daily wellness routine. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or on chronic medication, check with your healthcare provider before combining multiple supplements.

How do I know which collagen is right for me — marine or bovine?

Both are Halaal certified and support skin, joint, and bone health. Marine collagen is sourced from fish and absorbs slightly faster; bovine collagen is sourced from cattle and is rich in Type I and III collagen. If you’re unsure, our Marine vs Bovine Collagen guide breaks down the difference in more detail.
